YOUNGSTERS at Crowstone Preparatory School, Westcliff, raised £2,000 during a spellathon.
The youngsters put their brain power to the test to raise cash for the NSPCC.
Charity representative Janet Slark collected the money at a special assembly which was attended by Southend mayor Chris Dandridge.
A school spokesman said: "This is exactly the sort of project that Crowstone Preparatory School likes to participate in, encouraging pupils to help other children who are less fortunate."
