Murder squad detectives have been given more time to hold two suspects following the death of Colchester man Westley Odger.

Police at Colchester Magistrates' Court yesterday were granted warrants for the further 36-hour detention of a 31-year-old man and a 36-year-old man.

The pair from the town were arrested on suspicion of murdering the 27-year-old at the Hunwicke Shopping Centre in Greenstead on Monday afternoon.

A 25-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender was released on police bail.

Mr Odger, of Jack Andrews Drive, Colchester, suffered a knife wound to the neck and died later at Colchester General Hospital.

Fingertip searches were carried out at two homes as part of the investigation yesterday. The properties in Compton Road and Avon Way were cordoned off while specially-trained officers got to work.

Police are still seeking the weapon used in the altercation, believed to be a knife.

l An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of Westley Odger. Essex coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray adjourned the inquest into the death of Mr Odger at Chelmsford Coroner's Court yesterday.
