Parents and children have been warned by police to be on their guard after a schoolgirl was followed down an alleyway.
The girl was walking to school along Chase Lane, Dovercourt, at about 9am on Tuesday when she passed a man with a dog.
He then turned round and followed her down a number of streets, at one point putting his arm out to get her to stop. She managed to escape him and run away.
Now police are keen to trace the man as soon as possible.
Tendring police spokesman Elaine Seymour said: "It might have been perfectly harmless, but we need to know who this is to reassure parents and make sure it won't happen again."
The girl, a 14-year-old pupil at the Harwich School, was followed down Long Meadow and Abbotts Road, before turning down an alley next to Jubilee Close.
