The publican-cum-magician took over the Old Lifeboat House in Marine Parade East, Clacton, 18 months ago.
The Magic Circle member started learning tricks from famous Clacton magic-man Len Blease 24 years ago.
And he's played his cards right to get the pub included in the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) Good Beer Guide.
"Being included in the guide is something I never thought would happen," said the 47-year-old. "It's down to the staff, the customers and the beer."
Mr Hancock, who has lived in Clacton for 25 years, ran a hotel before taking over the Old Lifeboat House.
