The Braintree athlete, 30, has been named as one of England's three-man team to compete in the hammer at the Melbourne Games in mid-March.

And the near 16-stone Stansted Airport training officer described his forthcoming experience Down-Under as 'a fantastic opportunity'.

He said: "I found out I was in the team last Wednesday, but it's only just registering.

"This is the kind of thing you dream about.

"I've been throwing the hammer since I was 14-years-old and have always wanted to compete in a major event like the Commonwealths.

"I have represented England Schools before, but this will be my first senior cap. It's fantastic."
