A controversial scheme to build more than 100 new beach huts on Dovercourt seafront has received the all-clear at the third attempt.

Plans for the lower promenade at Marine Parade were given the green light despite fears they could be partly blocking a right of way.

Members of Tendring Council's planning committee spent almost 90 minutes discussing the proposal put forward by their leisure department.

They had spent a similar amount of time at two previous meetings and almost came to another stalemate.

A move to refuse the scheme was defeated.

A bid to approve it with a 2.2 metre strip in front of the huts was thrown out, followed by another bid with a strip of 1.6 metres.

Councillors finally voted nine to six in favour of granting permission for up to 113 huts at the site with 1.8 metres in between the huts and the edge of the promenade.
