Alex Dowsett is delighted after becoming only the second-ever cyclist to reclaim the GHS National Schoolboy Ten-Mile Time Trial title and breaking the competition record in the process.

The prestigious title has been held aloft by cycling greats such as Olympic gold medalist Chris Boardman and Commonwealth gold medalist Bob Downs.

But former Maldon Cycle Club member Dowsett has eclipsed their early achievements by claiming the title and setting the fastest time since the competition began in 1967 - 20 minutes 41 seconds - in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.

It means the 16-year-old from Cocks Clark now has a clean sweep of all the junior time trial titles this season, claiming the 25-mile and ten-mile.

Dowsett, who also set a new British record for the ten-mile distance, said: "It feels pretty special. "This is the one that I have been working hard towards and there was a lot of planning."

The teenager admitted he did not go out to break the record as after winning the title in 2004 he was seeded first and therefore the last to go.
