A mother has won a partial victory in her campaign to get her son into a school nearer to their Lawford home.

Tracey-Anne Beckett, of Gainsborough Drive, Lawford, refused to send her son to school after she was told he must go to Thomas Lord Audley, Colchester.

Mrs Beckett protested, saying the journey would involve taking buses and trains and her son not getting home until after 6pm after dark during the winter.

Now Joshua Redding-Bays, 11, has a place at Sir Charles Lucas School, Colchester, which is nearer their home. Mrs Beckett said: "At least there is a pavement he can walk on to get to the bus stop in Manningtree and it will be easier."

But the mother-of-seven was still unhappy that Joshua will be unable to travel in the same taxi his older sister uses to get to that school until she has filled out application forms.

At the time Mrs Beckett should have applied for Joshua to go to Manningtree High School, she was in hospital and it got overlooked. After she completed the form, it went astray and she learned that Manningtree was full and neither East Bergholt High School nor Sir Charles Lucas had room.
