Gareth Williams hopes he is now firmly in Phil Parkinson's plans.
The Colchester United front-runner produced a superb performance in Saturday's 3-2 win at home to Doncaster Rovers - his first start for the U's since losing 1-0 at Brentford last March.
And he has his fingers crossed that the partnership he forged with summer-signing Chris Iwelumo has given manager Parkinson plenty to consider.
He said: "I know there have been a lot of injuries but I hope I earned my start because I was doing well in training.
"It was then a bit of the old cliche about going out there and taking my chance, and I feel I did that against Doncaster.
"Hopefully it can be the start of a successful run in the first team."
