A teenage scooter rider was airlifted to hospital with a head injury after he was involved in a collision with a car.
The 16-year-old was riding along the B1022 Maldon Road, Birch, close to the junction of Lower Road when the accident happened at about 4pm yesterday.
The air ambulance had only just taken off from Colchester General Hospital and was re-directed to the call.
It was on the scene within minutes and was backed up by an ambulance.
As a precaution, the crew fully immobilised him with a neck collar and back board before flying him to Colchester General Hospital for further treatment.
Aircrew paramedic Steve Dennehy said: "He suffered a head injury and possibly a break to his left leg or hip and was quite shocked and still a bit concussed. He has undoubtedly had a very lucky escape."
