Hopes of building two new four-bedroom homes in a small village have been dashed.
Contractors Harvey and Little put forward a scheme to demolish a bungalow and replace it with the two-storey houses in Heath Road, Bradfield.
Bradfield Parish Council and neighbour Keith Wheatley strongly objected to the plans which they felt were out of keeping with the character of the area.
Mr Wheatley, who attended a meeting of Tendring Council's planning committee last night, said it was an overdevelopment of the site.
Mark De Roy (Lib Dem, Bradfield, Wrabness and Wix) said people would rather see three two-bedroom homes on the site. He believed the scheme needed reworking to fit in with the area.
Tendring Council planning officers had recommended approval but that was overturned by the councillors.
