A swan has been killed by water bikers on a village lake, it has been claimed.
A volunteer wildlife warden warned birds were in danger from the machines at St Osyth - and now his worst fears have come true.
The man, who does not want to be named because he has already been threatened, said a fully-grown swan was mown down by one of the bikes. Its body is yet to be retrieved from the bottom of the lake.
"I knew this was going to happen and I voiced my concerns a month or so ago," he said.
"Action was taken against those who were using the site and the owner warned them off. Police and the parish council were also informed about what was going on."
The warden said those responsible went away for a while and were not seen but it appears they have come back and used the water after dark.
They had previously been seen riding straight at a family of swans and veering away at the last minute. Their antics were captured on video and shown to police.
