A HOUSING complex in Hadleigh could mark the beginning of a three-stage rejuvenation project for the town centre, it has been revealed.

Designers Third Dimension revealed plans for its plush Steeple Gate apartments in Castle Lane, which could take advantage of the lucrative market for flats in neighbouring Leigh.

In addition, there are possible future proposals for five flats above Paul Newman Interiors in the High Street and eight on the site of the cottages to the back of the building.

A spokesman for the company said: "In partnership with Castle Point Council, a contemporary design approach for the development was undertaken.

"This was mainly due to its location. Either side of the site you will find a 1960s square residential block and to the other a McDonald's and office building, which I am sure nobody would want us to replicate.

"The apartments are potentially the first stage in a three-part comprehensive development for the area as requested by the council to improve the existing site."
