Southend maintained their indian sign over Old Patesians as they got their home campaign off to a successful 30-10 winning start on Saturday.

The Seasiders have now won all five games against their Cheltenham based visitors since jumping into the National leagues two seasons ago.

And Kevin Harman was pleased to see his team extend this run against their visitors - following last weekend's 44-17 opening day defeat at North Walsham.

"It really wasn't rocket science - we played how I expected us to and we got the right result," said the Warners Bridge chief.

"I was pleased to get off to a good start at home, following last week's disappointment at North Walsham.

"There really are no excuses this season and we should be winning these games. But we can play even better than that.

"We have a lot of talent here this season and if the players apply themselves properly we can be a decent side in this division."
