Essex Police have spent £4,000 sponsoring a Southend exhibition featuring Holocaust victim Anne Frank, which is designed to fight race and hate crime.

South East Essex College, in Luker Road, will host the free show called Anne Frank + you, from Friday, October 7, until Thursday, October 27.

When the exhibition, which is currently touring the country, stops in Essex, it will be joined by a stand manned by Essex Police staff.

Andrew Bliss, assistant chief constable, said: "Sadly, race and hate crime is still present in society and this is an opportunity for us to show how we and other agencies are tackling these issues in a robust and positive manner.

"It is important to learn from the past to build better futures and we believe the Anne Frank story is one of the most powerful educational accounts in the portrayal of what can occur if prejudice and racial hatred go unchallenged."
