Back-to-back Coca-Cola Championship defeats have not left Ipswich Town boss Joe Royle deflated ahead of tonight's visit of Southampton.

Instead the Blues chief is surprisingly upbeat on their current plight as they look to get one over freshly-relegated Saints (kick-off 7.45pm).

Town were soundly beaten 4-0 by Preston in their last outing at Portman Road and followed it up with a 2-0 defeat at leaders Sheffield United on Saturday.

Their 12th-placed position can be attributed to the growing number of injuries already this season which has seen a trio of key players on the sidelines.

"Considering the problems we've had it's been a decent start - we're still in touch with second place," Royle said.

"We've had our goalscorer (Nicky Forster), centre-half (Jason De Vos) and midfield powerhouse (Ian Westlake) out at different times. Our other centre-half (Richard Naylor) was suspended - we've had more injuries in the seven games we've played this season than we did for the whole of last year."
