Police in Braintree are today hunting two men responsible for assaulting an elderly woman before stealing cash.
The incident happened at the 85-year-old woman's home in Newland Avenue, Great Bardfield, near Braintree, at about 3.30pm on Saturday.
Although she was not physically injured, the woman was distressed after the two men tricked their way into her home.
Police believe the men have already committed similar crimes in the area and could strike again.
A police spokesman said: "Elderly people should use chain systems on their doors and ask any callers for identification which they should check carefully before letting anyone in.
"If in any doubt, residents should make a telephone call to check the individual's identity, call the police or ask them to make a formal appointment on another date."
