AN EX-PRISONER has been awarded more than £1million in compensation after being crippled when a prison doctor failed to send him to hospital.
Gregg Marston, 43, of Shoebury, reached an out-of-court settlement with the Prison Service.
The payout centres on his admission to Chelmsford prison in February 2000. He was jailed for failing to appear at court for driving offences committed in breach of a sentence for burglary.
He complained of back pain when he entered the jail and then told officers the problems were getting worse.
He was seen by a doctor who recorded syptoms of tingling in both legs and an inability to stand. However, he was not sent to hospital until the next day.
