Two tiny kittens were today lucky to be alive after an hour's fight by firefighters to free them.
The feline rascals each lost one of their nine lives after crawling behind plasterboard in the bathroom of the house in Fastnet, Eastwood.
Leigh firefighters rushed to the rescue at 8pm yesterday after the kittens' worried owners failed to tempt them out.
A spokesman for Leigh's red watch said: "It took us an hour to get them out, one of them had crawled along the bath and fallen straight down the side of the house.
"We had to cut a hole in the wall to get it out. It was a very delicate operation, but fortunately we managed to get both kittens out without any injury.
"The one which fell down the side of the house was very scared, but otherwise it was OK."
