A hotelier served a plain clothes police officer with two pints of lager out of hours, a court heard.
Vincenzo Caro, who owns the Waverley Hall Hotel in Clacton, appeared before Colchester magistrates yesterday
He admitted one offence of selling alcohol after hours. A second charge was dismissed. Caro was fined a total of £700.
Gerald Isted, prosecuting, told the court that police in plain clothes went to the hotel in Marine Parade West and were served lager twice, once at 11.22pm and again an hour later.
David Davies, mitigating, said that Caro found it embarrassing and shameful to be before the court. He said Caro had held a licence for 27 years and had never been convicted of any criminal offence.
