A greener, cleaner gas-powered fuel is being introduced by a timber merchant for its fleet of vehicles.
CF Anderson and Son, sited just off the A12 at Marks Tey, is gradually converting its cars and vans to run on liquid petroleum gas and has its own refuelling station.
The gas contains fewer harmful pollutants such as those that aggravate asthma - overall emission reductions with LPG range between 50 per cent and 80 per cent.
It has partly been encouraged by green reforms in the Budget encouraging vehicle owners to convert to cleaner fuel systems.
Company spokesman Carlton Howe said: "Not only is there an environmental issue, but also the improved fuel efficiency and tax saving.
"With the Government changing the way cars are taxed it is important to be aware of sensitive issues."
CF Anderson has about 12 vehicles, and plans to convert them all to the cheaper LPG.
