Rochford Bowls Club have enjoyed a good sequence of matches, starting with a victory over Southminster.

Eric Overell, Mike Spackman, Brian Neville and club captain Jeff Jeffrey beat Southminster's men by 81 shots to 78.

With Rochford's ladies also scoring a 47-25 victory, Southminster returned home with nothing to show for their efforts.

The six-rink match against Burnham saw Rochford comfortably win two rinks, lose two and get marginal scores on the other two to give Burnham a two-shot win with the scores at 123-121.

Against Thorpe Bay, Rochford's Derek King overcame M Garwood 29-12, Reg Stapleton tied 17-each with E Baker, but Thorpe Bay's Maurice Lane thrashed Bill Graves 37-12.

Rochford's A team won in the Essex County Double Fours by one shot, winning the extra end after the rinks of Gerry Humm (23-18) and Bill Collins (13-18) had left the game all square after 21 ends against Bournemouth Park.

The B team lost by 15 shots, with Ken Pracy going down 13-32 to Percy Boxall. Eric Overell redeemed some pride by defeating Maurice Lane at Thorpe Bay 25-21.

Rochford beat Chelmsford in the National Two Fours competition. Gerry Humm won 33-12 and Bill Collins 24-14.

The Harry Rhona competition saw Rochford maintain their push to retain the title after defeating Wickford 8-2.

Eric Overell notched up a 22-12 win, Beryl Horrex 22-17, John Staines 24-20 and June Tann 15-18.
