SOUTHENDIAN SUNDAY XI 270-5

WESTCLIFF 274-4

(WESTCLIFF WON BY SIX WICKETS)

A century for each side lit up Westcliff's rain-affected Ibex League win over neighbours Southendian.

Chris Bunce made 128 and John Fielden an unbeaten 61 as Old Boys compiled 270-5 in their 45 overs, although S Zadi finished with 2-24.

A downpour forced a break near the end of Southendian's innings, and made bowling and fielding difficult, perhaps hitting Old Boys' hopes.

Westcliff's reply flowed, Duncan Pavelin (126), Romesh Paul (49 not out) and Simons 48 easing them home.

Not out - Old Boys' centurion Chris Bunce (grounded) and fellow batsman John Fielden survive a run-out bid in Sunday's Ibex League defeat against Westcliff at Southchurch Park

OLD SOUTHENDIAN SECONDS 230-7

HAROLD WOOD 201-7

(DRAW)

A maiden ton from Andy Hathaway provided the soundest of bases for Old Southendian, as they picked up 11 points from their Shepherd Neame Division Two second XI draw.

Hathaway's 125-minute knock of 108 was backed up at Southchurch Park by Tim Dennis (32 not out) and Steve Tomlin (24).

Then Harold Wood finished 29 runs behind Southendian from three fewer overs - 49 - as A Carman hit an invaluable, undefeated 63.

C Low made 25, while Andy Sasiadek was Southendian's most successful bowler, with 3-57. Tony's 1000 up!

BILLERICAY ST JOHN 116 all out

EVERSLEY PARK 117-4

(EVERSLEY WON)

Tony Westwell marked Eversley's debut game at their new Holy Cross home by taking his 1,000th wicket for the club.

The 48-year-old bowler took 2-25 in his two overs as he reached the landmark.

However it is not the first time Tony has been the toast of a club. He collected 1,000 wickets for Canvey Cricket Club before joining Eversley Park 19 years ago.

Tony was joined by Eversley bowlers Peter Woods (3-14) and Phil Parmenter (2-2) as Billericay crashed to 116 all out, with Wigan (30) and Stephens (46) providing the main resistance.

Eversley made 117-4 off 28 overs to win the 40-over match - their third win out of three games this season.

Nigel Spicer (34) and Mark Robinson (36) were Billericay's main tormentors, although Wigan took 2-25 and Cheale 2-31 in this Reefers 90 League game.

"It was good Tony got his 1,000th wicket on the opening day of our new ground, especially as he bought the team beer all day to celebrate," said Eversley spokesman Dave Alexander.

Tony once got 150 wickets in a single season and his best match result was ten wickets for 73 runs. Rayleigh suffer as Rankins star makes most of slip-up

RAYLEIGH FAIRVIEW 171-7

RANKINS 174-4

(RANKINS WON)

Rankins opener Alderton made Rayleigh pay for dropping him early on by hitting a quick-fire 74 that took his side to a six-wicket Mid-Essex League Division Four victory.

Rayleigh had opened the contest promisingly, reaching 80-1, but their innings faded, despite 38 from Spencer Collins and 29 from Dave Webster.

Cook (3-42), Clapp (2-48) and Holyland (2-37) all chipped in for Rankins. Fairview's fair view

RAYLEIGH FAIRVIEW 243-3

RAYNE 136 all out

(RAYLEIGH WON)

Dean Stockinger's 112 and a fine family "double act" from the Smiths dominated Rayleigh's splendid Mid-Essex League Division Eight victory.

Stockinger received strong from Terry Faires (61) and Ian Mitchell (36 not out) in Rayleigh's daunting total.

Then skipper and medium-pace seamer Bob Smith took 6-24, with his son Matt taking four catches, as only Butler (42) provided real resistance in Rayne's response. Sheerman surges into form

RAYLEIGH FAIRVIEW SUNDAY XI 169 all out

HUTTON 156-5

(RAYLEIGH WON)

Russell Sheerman surged back into form, littering his innings of 91 with 16 boundaries, as Rayleigh pulled off a noteworthy, 40-over-a-side triumph over Hutton.

Bob Smith (25) was Rayleigh's next highest scorer, while Wale (3-2 at the end of Hutton's innings) and Carey (3-35) were Hutton's top bowlers.

Sedano made 25 in Hutton's response, but extremely accurate bowling from Terry Faires (2-19) helped ensure Rayleigh's 14-run win. Adcock returns to spur Wakering win

BROOMFIELD 153-8

GREAT WAKERING 154-4

(GREAT WAKERING WON)

Recalled Phil Adcock celebrated his return to Great Wakering's first team with a match-deciding 53 runs.

David Howe, who had earlier taken 4-32, hit 25 as Wakering cruised to a six-wicket win for their third success in five Mid-Essex League Division One games.

Cowell (26) top-scored for Broomfield, who won the toss and made 153-8, Wakering's Andy Pirie taking 2-34. Dick's record figures

RETTENDON 167 all out

GREAT WAKERING 168-6

(GREAT WAKERING WON)

Fifteen-year-old Matthew Dick grabbed his best ever figures of 4-41 as Great Wakering made it five wins in five Mid-Essex League Division Five matches.

Robbie Accleton notched 2-15 in 12 overs to restrict Rettendon to 167, despite useful knocks from Hunt (33) and Maybury (40).

Wakering's winning reply was based on Trevor Burrell's 34, 27 from Dave Sutton and Bill Pirie's 30 not out.

STANFORD UNDER-13s 51-3

(STANFORD WON)

Stanford were comfortable victors by seven wickets in the Bradford Cup semi-final - after 14 from Leon Kay proved to be Great Wakering's top score. Colin marshalls Southend's third straight win

SOUTHEND IIs 188-6

HARLOW IIs 184 all out

(SOUTHEND WON)

Colin Marshall's excellent bowling and 15-year-old James Holmwood's steady batting earned Southend seconds their third successive win.

N Aspinall, (36), R Ayrton (34) and P Finemore (38) steered Harlow, whose innings included three ducks, to 184 all out.

Marshall took 5-23 in 13 overs, while G Butler grabbed 3-18 in 4.3 overs.

One wicket apiece fell to J Flanders and K Porter.

Then openers S Maflin (34) and S Humby (34) provided the ideal start to Southend's run-chase, before Holmwood, who made 40 the previous week, helped guarantee a four-wicket victory with eight balls to spare.

SHENFIELD 170-8

SOUTHEND 234-4

(DRAW)

Hard-hitting Nick Hill underpinned a powerful batting show from Southend thirds - only for a thunderstorm to end their victory chances with ten overs remaining.

Southend rattled up 234-4 in just 42 overs, Hill (67) receiving particular support from I Heiser (36), C Carter (38 not out) and opener C Chambers (27).

Only a fine 80 from R Edwards, who had earlier taken 2-71, held Shenfield's reply together, although N Watson made 38.

G Lee (3-41) and R Edmunds (3-30) did much to tie the home side down.

However, Shenfield were saved from possible defeat by the weather. Gardener digs in for victory

TERLINGS IIs 126

NORTH SHOEBURY 127-4

(NORTH SHOEBURY WON)

A magnificent 61 runs from Brian Gardener inspired North Shoebury to a comprehensive six-wicket win at Witham against Terlings 2nds.

Gardener was backed up by team mate Phil Slade who smashed 47, before the visitors' bowlers took control of the match with Patrick Oliver taking 5-24 and Phil Hope 4-37.

In reply Terlings' Peter Ness was the hosts' top batsman with a mere 27 runs and their bowling honours were just as unimpressive.

Adam Twinn claimed 1-14 and Mark Twinn 2-9 as North Shoebury were allowed to clock up 115 runs before the fall of their first wicket. Checkers' top gear

CHECKERS (CANEWDON) 219-9

PERRY'S (FORD) 132-8

(CHECKERS WON)

Checkers clinched their second win of the season after Jim Pooley's 64 gave them a fine start and Dave Elvin's 3-14 a splendid finish.

Colin Campbell (30), Dave Hyam (27) and debutant Ray Stevens (24) helped Checkers to their useful total amid poor weather conditions.

Then Perry's were left 87 runs adrift, despite 45 from Paul Greverty and 37 not out from John Chalfonts.

Elvin, back bowling for the first time since an elbow injury, got Greverty out with his second delivery - and his three-wicket haul in just three overs included two dismissals in two balls. Carriers still seek first win

OLD COMMONERS 182-5

ESSEX CARRIERS 179-2

(OLD COMMONERS WON)

A miserable bowling display left Essex Carriers still searching for their first win in the Reefers 90 league.

The Hadleigh based outfit have now lost both of their opening games against Billericay opposition, with Old Commoners coming out on top of this encounter with a five-wicket success at Lake Meadows.

Despite good batting displays from Steve Rogers (71), Mike Blerkom (52) and Dave Toplis (31), Carriers were unable to finish off their opponents as they turned their attentions to stump-taking.

Paul Bentley, on his debut, took 2-32, while Gary Toplis managed 1-26 and Roley Watts 1-19.

However, the home side, inspired by skipper Bouchereau, who smashed 52 runs, were able to bat themselves to victory as Manning (40) and Elliott (27) provided solid support for their captain.

G.Milsom, 1-24, and D. Smith, 1-34, took the bowling honours for the hosts.
