Hundreds of worshippers took part in the annual Bradwell pilgrimage.
The Christian event saw about 2,000 people take part in the pilgrimage, which began with the opening worship at Bradwell Church on Saturday.
The pilgrimage marks the arrival in the Seventh Century of St Cedd. He brought Christianity to south-east England after coming ashore at Bradwell.
Worshippers of all ages joined the procession to St Peter's Chapel and pilgrims were invited to bring a picnic, and enjoy pilgrimage hymns.
Attending was the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Rev John Perry, the Bishop of Bradwell the Rt Rev Dr Laurie Green and Roman Catholic Bishop of Brentwood, the Rt Rev Thomas McMahon.
The main speaker was the Rev David Bryant, a vicar in Lastingham, North Yorkshire, where St Cedd is buried.
