Having been overlooked for the First Test match, Essex's Peter Such sent a timely reminder to the England selectors of his continued will being and form with his 13 wicket haul of wickets against Lancashire.

In the last Test that he played, in January at Sydney, he took five for 81 against the Australia yet he found the spinner's place awarded to Phil Tufnell.

Naturally disappointed, Such said: "You never expect anything by right but I am sure that if a batsman had scored a hundred in a Test match, he wouldn't have been dropped for the next one."

"It is disappointing for me because when I look back at the matches I've played for England, I don't think that I've ever let them down. I've bowled well, yet I keep finding myself on the outside."

"They (the England Selectors) don't seem to have shown a lot of faith in me.

''But there is nothing that I can do about it apart from keep bowling away and taking wickets in the hope that somebody takes notice."

Recalling his outstanding performance at Old Trafford last week at a venue that holds particularly happy memories for him - he made his Test debut on the ground in 1993 taking six for 67 against Australia - the bowler who has given Essex stalwart service since making his debut nine years ago said, "It was good to see a wicket that helped. You don't often see 70 or 80 overs of spin in a day and I'm sure that the spectators enjoyed it."

''With the spinners bowling, there was variety for the spectators and it's interesting for the players. It was a delight for me to have a decent pitch to bowl on.

"I haven't seen a real turning pitch like that for a couple of years."
