Twenty-two Springfield Striders competed in the Constable Country Five on Friday evening.

In hot and humid conditions, Dave Norman I was the only Strider to break 30 minutes, but was chased hard by Jamie Woodyard and John Beaumont.

However, in the ladies event, Liz Turk claimed third prize with another fine run, but she just failed to beat her husband, Dave.

Gary Randall, fresh from his success in the Club handicap on Thursday, had another good run, as did Steve Perry who smashed his personal best.

Even more Striders took part in the Springfield Stride on Sunday. Jamie Woodyard had a storming run to win the shorter (15K) event by over ten minutes.

Carl Cornish finished a fine second after a long lay-off, and Ken Edwards and Julian Catmull shared fifth place.

Julie McHale, in her first trail race, won the ladies race by an even larger margin than the male winner.

In the 30K, Andrew Mason finished an excellent second in a small, but high quality field.

The race may not have had a sting in the tail, but the runners were confronted by a large swarm of bees as they reached Boreham.

Also on Sunday, John Hoskyn, Pat Knowles, Derek Pollett and Richard Taylor ran round the lanes of Felsted in the Grange Farm Trotters 10K.

Tonight (Friday), the club are holding a five mile road race from The Green Man, in Howe Street, starting at 7.45pm.
