DIVISION TWO

Herongate proved not to be a place for bowlers on Saturday, as their match with Laindon Taverners produced an astonishing total of 632 runs for the loss of only 12 wickets.

Having been asked to bat, Taverners openers R. Brooks (68) and Trevor Linahan put on 162 before Brooks was dismissed

However, Linahan's continued assault on the home bowlers took him to a magnificent unbeaten 157, and with his son Tim Linahan contributing a rapid 33, it enabled the visitors innings to close at a huge 318 for five , D. Follett taking three for 71 in 12 overs.

The home batsmen proved to be undaunted by their task as M. Ramm (91), Packard (51) and Graham (75 n.o.), all set about the bowling but in an exciting finish the innings finally ended four runs short at 314 for seven with Tim Linahan taking three for 59.

Danbury entertained Great Totham and the home side were dismissed for 200 in the 45th over with James Banfield (87) and Simon Reed (37) leading the way.

For Totham, D. Davies took three for 38 and Ollie Kendall four for 52.

Danbury felt they would have difficulty in defending their total but Atkinson (1-9 in 10 overs) and Rayner (1-24 in 11 overs) put the visitors well behind the asking rate and paved the way for Bowring (3-10 in six overs) and Sandell (4-18 in 8.3 overs) to bowl out Totham for just 90 and thus maintain Danbury's unbeaten record.

Burnham Sports batted first at home to Rayleigh and were dismissed for a disappointing 76 in 36 overs with Rees taking three for 23 in 12 overs and Cook two for 13.

In reply, Rayleigh also struggled to score runs against some tight bowling, particularly from Mike Sach (12-9-8-3) and lost six wickets in reaching 77 in the 38th over with only Dudmish (41 n.o) making any impression.

Great Burstead had R. Woolgar (85) and Cory (57) to thank for their score of 202 for seven against visiting Terling for whom C. Twinn returned three for 52 in 12 overs.

The visitors never got to grips with the bowling of A. Stevens (4-32 in 12 overs) and P. Reeves (3-27 in seven overs) and were eventually all out for 139.

Roxwell visited Little Baddow and the home side totalled 245 for seven with C. Cole and D. Blaydes scoring 69 and 43 respectively, while Anderson returned five for 40 in 12 overs.

P. Beard (51) and A. Beard (57) then got the visitor's reply off to a good start, but with their dismissals, the innings fell away and ended on 181 for eight with Barratt (4-39) and Woodrow (2-39) bowling well.
