Personal safety and accident awareness are among the crucial lessons being learnt by children.
More than 900 youngsters from local primary schools across the Maldon district have been taking part in Crucial Crew Week, at Maldon's Promenade Park.
The event, the second of its kind organised by Maldon District Council, is designed to teach children about real-life dangers by using life-like demonstrations.
To make the scenarios as realistic as possible, a number of sets have been rigged up including a mock building site, a pylon to show the dangers of electricity and a complete bedsit to demonstrate dangers in the home.
A host of organisations are helping out including the emergency services, the Mid Essex Drug Awareness Group, Essex County Road Safety Department.
Kathy Payne, community safety officer at Maldon District Council, said: "The most important thing is we get the messages across and the children remember them for the rest of their lives.
"Each child will get something different out of it but even if they remember just some of the messages we've achieved what we set out to do."
