What an arresting line-up!

These policewomen from Clacton were more than a little miffed when they spotted an advert for Virgin Atlantic which referred to a "surprisingly beautiful policewoman".

They wrote to Richard Branson to put him in the dock - but so far have had no response.

PC Debbie Simpson said their letter was in a jovial spirit and they had invited the multi-millionnaire businessman down to the town.

"We thought he could come and meet us and spend some time out on the beat," she added.

"We may not all be models but I am sure he would find it quite pleasant to meet us and help us with our inquiries."

PC Simpson said they were hoping for a reply but understood Mr Branson was a busy man.

A spokesman for the Virgin Group said Mr Branson would be contacting the police officers in due course but had a large number of commitments in the next few weeks.

"It may be difficult to take up their offer because of his commitments abroad but he thanks them for it," he said.

The spokesman added the advert had not been meant to cause any offence but bring a smile to faces and sell their products.

He said there was also a male version of it which went out at the same time.
