An appeal for leukaemia sufferers in Southend could get a huge boost - thanks to a fundraising scheme by bank workers.
Seven local branches of the HSBC Bank are to stage a support day for Southend Hospital's Leukaemia Unit Appeal on Friday.
They will be giving each customer one of the appeal's 2000 Club membership forms which asks for a pledge of £1 a week until the end of the year.
Bob Kelly, the area manager, has already signed up and hopes many others will do the same.
He said: "We believe that a new unit for leukaemia and cancer care would be a significant benefit to the community.
"As many people as possible should join the club and make it happen."
To become a member, either visit HSBC branches or call Tony Wilson at Southend Hospital on 01702 221404.
