Stuart Law and Ronnie Irani are the 1999 winners of the Essex Boundary Club's batsman and bowler of the year supporters' trophies.

The awards go to the batsman and bowler who score the most runs and take the most wickets for Essex in Championship, one-day and tourist games from April 17 to the cut off date of September 7.

Law capped a magnificent season by scoring 2,186 runs for Essex during this period - a massive winning margin of 945 runs over second-placed Paul Grayson (1,241).

Irani finished third with 1,140 runs, but proved what a fine all-round season he has had by topping the wicket-taker list with 67 victims to his credit. Ashley Cowan finished runner-up with 60 wickets and Peter Such third on 54.

The two other categories were for the highest individual score and best bowling analysis in an innings.

Stuart Law's career best 263 against Somerset would have won, but the competition rules state that players can only collect one prize so Darren Robinson's double century against New Zealand qualified as the next best.

Peter Such's marathon spell of 40.4 overs, which brought him seven wickets for 136 against Lancashire, was the best individual bowling analysis of the season.

The awards are run in conjunction with the Essex Boundary Club's Cricket Bonanza competition - a grand draw which paid out £2,000 in prize money to Essex supporters this year.

The Royal Bank of Scotland have been the main sponsors of this competition for 12 years and the 1999 winners of their two £750 prizes were Alan McLagan, from Dunstable, who drew Law, and Pat Hoare, from Clacton, who was paired with Irani.

MacIntyre Hudson, a firm of chartered accountants with offices in Moulsham Street, Chelmsford, sponsored £500 in prizes which were shared by Jenny Franklin, from Woodford Green, and Mary Holman (Bishop's Stortford) who drew Robinson and Such respectively.

Congratulations - Stuart Law is congratulated by cash winner Alan McLagan while Royal Bank of Scotland officials John Smith (regional director of banking) and David Wilson (East Essex commercial manager) look on
