Colin Lewin, Colchester Harriers' number one triathlete, represented Great Britain in the ITT World Triathlon Championship in Montreal.

Lewin, whose form has been his best ever in 1999, strode through the Canadian heat to finish tenth out of the 190 competitors over the Olympic course.

His finishing time of 1.57.08 immediately qualified him for next year's World Championships in Perth.

Lewin clocked an impressive 34.28 for the final event, a 10km road race. The time was a new personal best.

Harriers continued on the success trail, with the green vests bringing glory to the town.

Alan Ellam won British gold at Leicester. Ellam clocked 50.56 in the British Veterans 10km Championships at Abbey Park to become national racewalk champion.
