It's Carlsberg FA Vase time this weekend with the second qualifying round being staged.
Three of the four local Schweppes Essex Senior League sides competing are away from home with only Canvey-based Concord Rangers, who take on Ilford at Thames Road, enjoying home advantage.
Hullbridge came into the Vase at the first qualifying round stage and pulled off a superb home success over Ryman League Witham Town.
Hullbridge undoubtedly took advantage of the fact that the win came straight after manager George Young and the majority of players had quit Witham, but the 3-0 success on the day suggests that they can get some reward in Cambridge at Ely City.
Southend Manor make a lengthy trip to Bedfordshire to take on a Kempston Rovers outfit who have produced some outstanding results in national knockout competitions over the years.
Even so, it will be a major disappoint if Manor, enjoying a very bright term so far, do not return with some reward.
If you can't make the trip to Kempston, Manor have an attractive reserve game at Southchurch Park tomorrow (3pm) when Concord Rangers provide the opposition.
It would take something of an optimist to suggest that Basildon United, still very much in the throes of rebuilding, can achieve anything at Jewson League Clacton.
However, you never know . . . and that's one of the fascinations of the Vase.
Back on the League scene, Bowers United who, like Ryman League Great Wakereing are exempt until a later stage in the Vase, host Leyton.
Although without a League game tomorrow, Wakering are back on Ryman Division Three duty next Tuesday when Kingsbury Town make a visit to their Burroughs Park ground.
