A haul of 11 podium placings out of a possible 30 left South Woodham Ferrers & Wickford Rollerspeed Skating Club delighted with their day's work in Birmingham against most of the country's top performers.

Competing in glorious sunshine, South Woodham rattled up three first places, four seconds and four thirds.

Billy Moore won both his races in category seven to emerge victorious in that section, while Jake Watkins came third, with two third places.

South Woodham had five of the seven skaters in category five - and promptly filled the top four spots.

Kevin Scott (two firsts) and Chanelle Moore (two seconds) were followed home by Sam Morrison (third and fourth) and Richard Webb (fifth and fourth).

Sam Vickers was sixth (sixth and fifth).

Matt Richardson performed well in category four, twice finishing as runner-up to take second spot overall.

Jonathan Wallis, the youngest skater in this group at the age of just nine, clinched third place after finishing in that position in both races.

Helen Warlow's double fifth placings left her in that position overall.

In category three, Jonathan Morrison was second, courtesy of a couple of runners-up berths.

Gary Moore, having moved up from category four, was eighth (eighth and seventh).

South Woodham clinched their second one-two-three in the Junior B 2000m points race, which had 14 competitors.

Richardson took maximum points, with Jonathan Wallis second and Chanelle Moore third.

Seven other South Woodham skaters took part in this section.

Ex-Woodham boy A J Burton, now skating for North London, triumphed in the Junior A 3000m points race, against 14 other racers.

South Woodham's Joshua Morrison won the rat race.
