Essex batting star Stuart Law has been named as the county's player of the season.

Days after signing a new two-year deal with Essex, Law received a cheque for £1,000 by Greg Jephcott, managing director of Ridleys brewery, at an end-of-season dinner.

The Australian also picked up the Norris Trophy as the Essex fielder of the season after taking 30 catches in County Championship matches.

Law notched up 1,833 runs in the championship this summer at an average of 73.32. His total for the county this year is 2,219.

Law's consistent form proved invaluable as the county had to play without skipper Nasser Hussain, who was on England duty for much of the summer.

England under-19 opening batsman Ian Flanagan was the Essex young player of the year, getting his award from second XI captain/coach John Childs.
