Braintree could be in line for a jobs boost after a firm announced it is to create 50 jobs.

Electronic Packaging Systems (EPS) took over Rider, Fenn and Ridgway (RFR) when it went into receivership last January.

At the time, EPS - an electronics and telecoms cabinet manufacturer - said it intended to double its turnover by the millennium.

Commercial director Stuart White said there were 200 staff when the firm was taken over but it now employs about 240.

He said: "The 50 new jobs is a big boost to the area."

Mr White added that the vacancies were "across the board," in roles including operators, welders and people to work in the assembly line.

He added: "We have achieved a great deal in a short time and our success has been based on sound business practice and the unstinting efforts of both management and workforce.

"We plan to continue by doubling the size of the company in the next five years, but more immediately, we require people to come and join in our success now and help create more job opportunities for local people in the future."

EPS operates from the Springwood Industrial Estate. Its clients include leading telecommunications companies including BT, Siemens and Ericsson.
