John David King, 10, pictured left, from Brentwood, has achieved second place at The English Field Archery Association 1999 National Championship.

This two day event on September 11 and 12 was hosted by Kings Forest Bowmen at their course just outside Bury St Edmunds. This major event attracted more than 140 entries of all ages, with archers attending from all over the country.

John shot in the finals of the Cub Section, eg children under 13 years of age.

His type of bow is a compound. There were eight others shooting in the Cub Section at distances varying from 20ft to 30 yards and at different size target faces.

John has been a member of "The Panther Bowhunters" based in Galleywood, Chelmsford for just over a year.

The club members who attended the Nationals came home with 14 awards between them, by far the largest total of all clubs competing.
