Cliff Bambridge was the Inter hero, grabbing all three goals as Inter came from behind to claim victory.
Inter fell behind in the second minute when Whitlock fired the visitors ahead, but Bambridge equalised with a header from an Andy Warren cross three minutes later.
Bambridge fired Inter ahead after being put through by Ray Towey, but the visitors equalised before half-time when Whitlock scored a good individual goal.
The second half saw Inter create a lot of chances, the closest to a goal coming when Craig Coxall hit the bar.
But just as the game looked like ending in a draw, sub Jeff Lee hit a great through ball for Bambridge to score and secure the points for Inter with almost the last kick of the game.
