Brentwood were disappointed with this result having played some good football but it fell to two second half goals by Liam Nash (50 minutes) and Paul Batt (68).

Basildon are an improving side and strengthened their squad last week by signing a number of players from Ryman League club Witham Town.

It was a frustrating afternoon for the Blues who felt they should have got something out of the game, and they had Michael Gore sent off for retaliation.

Brentwood's Reserves were beaten 2-1 at home by Basildon United Reserves at The Brentwood Centre, Gary Douglas scoring Brentwood's goal.

The Reserves were also beaten in the Essex Senior Trophy last week by Harlow Town Reserves, but had only themselves to blame for some defensive lapses and missed chances.

The pace of Kris Agyei-dua and Craig Nugent caused the Harlow defence a lot of problems in the first half but it was Mark Owusu who put the visitors ahead after nine minutes.

Three minutes later, Agyei-dua levelled the score after John Taylor put him through, the centre-forward's strength too much for Harlow's keeper.

Andy Purcell put Harlow back in front after 35 minutes but right at the start of the second half Agyeidua equalised again.

Harlow improved and got on top, Purcell scoring his second and what proved to be the winner half way through the half, but Brentwood came back in the last 15 minutes and went close to forcing extra time on several occasions.

On Saturday, the third team were held to 2-2 draw by Old Chelmsfordians at The Brentwood Centre.

All the goals came in the second half, with OCs scoring an equaliser in injury time.

Jamie Schofield (penalty) and Richard Parker were Brentwood's scorers.

The Vets continued their winning start with a 4-2 win at Sedgwick.

Fixtures for Saturday: Essex & Herts Border Combination: Brentwood Reserves v Aveley Reserves (3pm). Mid-Essex Vets League Division One: Brentwood Vets v Old Chelmsfordians Vets (2.15pm).
