Maldon Library is offering a corner to writing and poetry groups in the district.

A group will be able to display their work free of charge for a month to show Maldon people the type of work they produce.

"We are thrilled to be offering this opportunity to the local writing community," said Sylvia Samuel, library manager.

She added: "We are aware that we are offering a unique service but I believe the Writers' Corner success will be down to the enthusiasm of the poets and writers and the amazing displays they will present."

This month Maldon Poetry Group is showing members work.

The group meets each Monday evening between 8pm to 10pm at the Heybridge Inn and was formed four years ago.

Group secretary, Valerie Eve said each member takes a turn at chairing a meeting and sets the agenda, nominating a poet of their choice and a subject on which to write.

During the evening members also have time to share their poetry, trusting it to the group and open for constructive criticism.
