Everyone wants a roof over their head - and the Essex Air Ambulance is no different.
Since it was introduced nearly two years ago the helicopter has been kept outdoors at its Boreham Airfield home, near Chelmsford but now Essex Air Ambulance Service wants to build it a hangar.
It has applied to Chelmsford Council for permission to put up the building at the present site.
It would only take a week to construct.
Lee Gillam, from the Essex Air Ambulance Service, said: "The helicopter has been pegged down outside during night time. But helicopters don't like the cold weather that often.
"Obviously you get damp in the engine which causes a few electrical problems."
He added: "We've asked the council if we can build a two-year temporary hangar to keep it out of the damp."
Mr Gillam said having the air ambulance undercover would also allow engineers to carry out round-the-clock repairs when needed.
The hangar application will go before Chelmsford Council soon.
