The history of Coggeshall will be revealed with a reprint of a book first published more than 100 years ago.
Beaumont's History of Coggeshall was first published in 1890 but original editions are now scarce and expensive. Now John Lewis, of Stoneham Street, Coggeshall, who owns an original copy, has decided to reprint the book.
He said: "A book like this should be available to everyone, from those who have always lived here to people who have just moved to the area and want to find out more about Coggeshall."
The 292-page book covers the history of Coggeshall and also has illustrations. Readers can learn about Sir Robert Hitcham, who died in 1636 leaving money to teach the poorest children to read and write.
The Trust still exists and every year small grants are given to children to help with their education
Mr Lewis, 64, said: "Once publishing costs are paid, money raised from the sale of the book will go to Sir Robert's legacy."
The book, priced £14.99, should be out by the end of September but Coggeshall residents can purchase a copy in advance for £12 before December 1 by telephoning Mr Lewis on 01376 561518.
