Billericay Cricket Club's Under 13 'A' squad, captained by Ben Washington, gained just rewards for their efforts on Saturday by beating a strong Gidea Park side by 27 runs to seal a semi-final place in the County Under 13's Tremain Toys 30 over Cup Competition.

Billericay top their group with five wins from five matches, after beating Gidea Park, Woodford Wells, Hutton, Horndon and South Loughton.

Victory against Gidea Park was sealed by an excellent spell of swing bowling from Chris Wigston (6-4-11-3) his last four overs being maidens.

Gidea Park reached 118 for nine, which was 27 runs short of Billericay's target of 145 for six.

Some excellent catches were taken by 'B' squad players Manzoor, Maqbool and Jamaal in a superb all round team performance.

Mark Sykes, on emergency wicket keeping duties with both regulars Will Harrison and Jason Dent away on holidays, set the innings up with a classy 46, and he was well supported by Nomaan Jamaal (26) and Peter Stratton (13 n.o).

Billericay look forward to playing their next opponents (as yet undecided) with relish, having never been group winners before.
