Wednesday was a busy day for anglers, notably at the daytime match at Rayne Lodge Fishery in Braintree.

All were fishing on the bottom lake and Alan Lee (Bills Tackle) was certainly busy as he weighed in 69-6-0 to win. Second was R. Smith 61-13-0, and third was Len Golding snr (Vande de Eynde) 51-12-0.

Gordon Spur (Bag Up Pellets) was fourth with 46-14-0. Fifth was Steve Banks (Vande de Eynde) and sixth place went to C. Johnson (Rayne Lodge) who had 38-8-0.

Life was also busy in the three hour evening match judging by the weights.

Dale Smith (Browning Trent Tackle) was First with 47-0-0, second was Gordon Spur (Bag Up Pellets) 46-8-0, third was Bill Walker (Shimano JP Tackle Maldon) who had 45-9-0, and Martin Turner (Rayne Lodge) was fourth with 33-5-0.

On Saturday, Graham Dack (Image E17),was at a match on Rayne Lodge's Top Lake and he weighed in with a massive 104-4-0 to be a clear winner.

Second was Bill Walker (Shimano JP Tackle Maldon) 61-3-0, third was Alan Lee (Bill's Tackle) 59-0-0, and fourth place went to Hughe Smith (Shimano JP Tackle Maldon) 58-8-0. Gordon Spur (Bag Up Pellets) claimed fifth spot with 43-8-0 and J. Weller (Browning) 41-0-0 was sixth.

Tiptree's Brookhall Farm on Saturday was another high weights water.

The winner, John Hunt (Brentwood Angling), fished on permanent peg eleven and netted 94-8-0. Second was Mick Godfrey (Breakaway Ipswich Wasps) 76-0-0, and a close third was Paul Nickleson of Romford Angling Centre, with 75-12-0.

Fourth place went to Ronnie Smith (Mocatra) 51-0-0, fifth was Paul Connell (CAPS) 50-0-0, and sixth Simon Colclough of Browning Trent Tackle with 47-4-0.

The Preston Lake, 'Teams of Four' was won by Glen Cousins (Viscount Ipswich), with 21-0-0, second was Dave Ratcliffe (Trent Tackle B) 16-2-0, third Peter Rolfe (Long Melford) 13-12-0, fourth Andy Howard (Trent Tackle A) 12-9-0, fifth Jim Banks (Wickford Angling Centre) 10-15-8, and sixth Steve Joslin (CAPS) 10-13-0.

This left the overall team point placings with a tie for first place on 44 points between Viscount Ipswich and Trent Tackle A.

However, a weight check showed Browning Trent Tackle A with 37-8-0 at the scales against Viscount Ipswich's 32-11-0, so Trent Tackle A were declared the overall winners with Viscount second.

Third place went to Team Browning II with 42 points, fourth were Browning Trent B with 41 points, fifth were Team Browning III with 35 points, and Wickford came sixth with 34 points.

Sunday saw the first of the Annual Terry Barker Memorial Match held on Central Park Lake. This match was raising funds for the Farleigh Hospice, and 22 anglers fished on a hot day.

First with 13-12-0 and using double red maggot was Paul Camfield (Brookside) who is now the holder of the magnificent Barker Shield and replica, and all the trophies were donated by RHP Angling Association.

Second was Alan Page (RHP AA) 7-3-0, and in third place was Andy Stebbing (Shimano JP Tackle Maldon). Dave Kilpin (4-10-0) of RHP AA was fourth.

All the trophies and raffle prizes were donated by RHP AA and the match raised £174 for the Hospice.

The Young Merlin's Junior Angling Club have a free Teach-In on Central Park Lane, Chelmsford tomorrow (Saturday), and there will be another midweek teach-in which is planned for August 30.

It will finish at 1.30pm, and RHP will supply the bait and the fish.
