Castle Point Golf Club recently held its Junior Section Championship Day, with three competitions being played over the Canvey Course.

In the handicap championship Craig Stevenson played well below his 37 handicap with a total net score of 118, including an unbelievable afternoon total of 58.

European exit for McEvoy

Richard McEvoy saw his hopes of a high finish in the European International Amateur tournament dashed by a disappointing final round.

The Thorpe Hall golfer easily made the cut in the four-round event at the Styrian GC, Austria, but slipped to 45th on the final day after carding a 77.

However, it was otherwise a solid performance on the international circuit for the promising 20-year-old, who rattled in an eagle on the second day during his best round of 69.

Goodwin rules at Southend

Southend Golf Club played its club championship with the competition split into four categories and played over two rounds.

Paul Kreyling picked up the Jim Groves trophy for best net in senior section 127.

Mick Goodwin topped the board with a gross 68, including five birdies, to win his fourth championship in five years with a level par total of 140. Calvin Williams was close behind with 172.

In the intermediate section, playing for the Ben Birkham trophy, defending champion Peter Holiday was triumphant again with a net total of 131. Trevor Bulless won the junior section with a net 141.
