High achieving students have earned their schools places in the top ten grammar and comprehensive schools with A-level successes.

According to ranking released by the Press Association and based on the average number of UCAS points achieved by pupils taking at least two A-levels, Chelmsford County High School was fourth with 114 students earning 25.9 points.

Colchester County High School for Girls came fifth with 122 girls earning 25.6 points. At King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford, 122 pupils earned 25.6 points.

Other rankings based on different points systems still earn the schools places in the country's top ten with Colchester Royal Grammar also listed as one of the top achievers.

Eight students at the school notched up five grade As each and a further 12 earned four grade As.

Their head teacher Elizabeth Ward praised their hard work and commitment to their studies.

Eighteen other girls have each left school with three grade As to their name.
