Newborn twins Jason and Nathan were doing well today, despite their unexpected arrival on the bathroom floor at home.

The boys could not wait for mum Kerry Jarvis to get to Southend Hospital and arrived, with help from dad Jason, at 3am on Monday.

The Southend couple were preparing to go to hospital in days or weeks but Mr Jarvis, 31, said he was woken by partner Kerry, 17.

He said: "I thought there was plenty of time to get to hospital because the contractions were only coming every couple of minutes, so I telephoned my mum and dad to ask them to pick us up to go to the hospital.

"Then Kerry said she needed to go to the toilet and as she got there, the contractions got quicker."

In minutes Kerry was giving birth and Jason had no choice but to step in, call Southend Hospital on his mobile and deliver his son.

He said: "I didn't really have time to think about anything other than panic.

"I'm not sure what my feelings were when I saw the baby coming out and to add problems, it was a breach birth.

"The sister at the hospital talked me through the first one and there was my baby on the bathroom floor."

Mr Jarvis was helped by ambulance crews to deliver his second boy. The boy dad delivered is named Jason and the second boy Nathan. Mother and babies are doing well.
