A coastguard search for an elderly couple sailing from Southend to Holland ended happily at Tollesbury Marina yesterday.

The couple and their 28ft yacht the Mon Ami were found at the marina on the River Blackwater after changing their plans, unaware that this had sparked a call to the coastguard from their daughter.

A rescue team from Mersea Island along with three others was involved in the search for the missing yacht.

Thames Coastguard Officer Richard Snape said the daughter did the right thing by contacting them but urged people to keep relatives and friends informed about their whereabouts.

"This will save your family and the coastguard a great deal of worry," he said.
