A man was killed in the early hours of Sunday morning when he was hit by a car as he sat in the middle of a busy road.
The 30-year-old man - who is from the Rayleigh area - is believed to have been drinking with friends at a nearby pub in Rayleigh Road, Eastwood, earlier in the evening.
At just before midnight the man was sat in Rayleigh Road when he was hit by a Ford Escort.
He suffered horrific multiple injuries and was taken to Southend Hospital, but died shortly after arrival.
A 28-year-old woman from the Southend area has been interviewed by police and was on Sunday helping them with their inquiries.
