The final defendant in the murder case of former chef Hok Wan Leung has been acquitted of all charges.

Chan Tai Man, 30, of Shaftesbury Avenue, Soho, was cleared of a violent disorder charge at the High Court.

He and six other men were cleared of conspiring to murder the chef after a trial at Kingston Crown Court two weeks ago.

But the jury could not reach a verdict on whether Mr Man should be cleared of a violent disorder charge and the Crown Prosecution Service were given two weeks to decide whether to proceed with another trial.

Now the CPS has offered no evidence against the defendant.

A spokesman said: "We offered no evidence so Mr Man has now been acquitted of all charges. There will not be another trial."

Mr Leung, 34, of Watford, died after being attacked by a machete-wielding gang at the Middleborough roundabout, Colchester, in July 1999. He died in hospital with multiple injuries.

The prosecution claimed the killing was a pre-planned operation by Mr Leung's old masters to punish the alleged former Triad for setting up on his own.
